Day Cream vs. Night Cream:
I recently had a client ask me why she should bother with
specific day cream or night cream. She wanted to know why she couldn’t use
anything she had on hand, for any time of day. I had to explain to her what the
difference was between a night cream and a day cream. There truly is a big
difference!
Night Cream:
It’s essential to use night cream at bedtime, after
cleansing your face and neck. It should be applied gently to the face, neck and
chest area. Additionally, it’s important to use eye cream as well.
Night cream is specially formulated with special ingredients
that work with your skin in its ability to restore itself and heal while you
sleep. Your night cream helps your skin to repair and replenish itself. We sleep
in order for our bodies to heal, regenerate and restore themselves, and it’s no
different for our skin. A night cream
contains ingredients and healing emollients that are slower-absorbing than a
day cream. These are designed to work in
your skin over the course of hours and since UV protection isn’t needed, it
contains anti-aging compound instead. Having too many active ingredients in one
cream can decrease the effectiveness of them all. In addition, a night cream is
much richer and thicker than a day cream.
Our skin is our largest organ. Yes, it’s an organ! Our skin
is an extremely intricate system of layers of cells, connective tissue, nerves,
capillaries and glands. Our skin not only protects us but it also provides us
with a tactile connection to the world around us. This means that our skin is
under 24/7 assault from our environment and needs to restore itself during our
sleep.
Day Cream:
During the day, it’s important to protect your skin with a
day cream. Your day cream has a broad spectrum SPF that shields your skin from
sun exposure. Today, we know that sun exposure can age our skin, causing age
spots, discolorations and wrinkling, as well as cell damage. Using a protective
day cream is especially important for those with fair or light skin because
there is less melanin in light skin. Melanin helps absorb UV rays, thereby
helping to reduce cell damage.
A day cream is also lighter in weight and texture because it’s
meant to go under your cosmetics. It also won’t contain many anti-aging
properties, since these ingredients tend to make your skin a bit sun-sensitive.
What I Use:
AVON’s newly-formulated Anew Ultimate skin care line
provides you with a cleanser, a day cream, a night cream, an eye care system, a
night emulsion and elixir. The Anew Ultimate
is ideal for those of us in our 50s or are starting to experience some age
spotting or uneven, rough skin tone. If you’re starting to experience advanced
signs of aging, the Anew Ultimate 7S is an effective skin care system for you. This
system has a lovely, soft fragrance. Your skin will feel immediately soft and
smooth and within days you’ll see more elasticity and within two weeks, you’ll
see wrinkles and age spots diminished and your skin will feel much firmer.
I’m approaching the age of 50 and I’m fighting some discoloration
and some spotting around my forehead and cheekbones. I absolutely love-love-love
the Anew Ultimate! I use the cleanser, the eye system, the day cream and the
night emulsion.
Simply put, the ingredients in night cream are restorative
while the ingredients in day cream are protective. Therefore, it’s absolutely essential
to the health and appearance of your skin to use both! As we age, the need to
use both greatly increases.
Our skin is our largest organ, so taking care of it is
important not just to how we look, but also to our overall health. Now’s the
time to start treating your skin to both the restorative and protective
benefits of a night and a day cream.
Contact me if you have any questions or let me know if you’d
like to order from my AVON storefront. I’m happy to set you up with a default discount to use as often as you want!
